In the distance you can just make out Glastonbury Tor, the top of Lollover Hill has commanding views across Somerset.
The other day I walked along the ridge of Collard Hill. Looking south I was drawn towards this hill above Dundon church. Checking my map I discovered the top of the hill was open access so I had to pay it a visit.
A broad path leads up the hill from the small village of Dundon. The part starts at the bottom of the hill below the church.
At the start the path is narrow and overgrown but once climbing up the hill it opens out with views back to the church.
At the top is grassland with a patchwork of hawthorn and blackthorn trees. It reminded me of the Mendip Hills to the north – just as much wind!
The low sun created a wonderful texture.
I assumed I would be alone at the top. But this is unlikely in a place as beautiful as this. As the evening drew in we watched the sun draw its light across the fields.
The sun made the tree glow.
I should return to the hill in the heat of summer, and the winter’s snow.
