Starling Trail
Ham Wall
The sky to the west was dark and I did not have high hopes for this evening’s visit to RSPB Ham Wall to watch the starlings return to their roost. But I could not have been more wrong as the birds put on a stunning display.
The first flocks arrived from above Glastonbury Tor, the large orderly flock getting closer and closer. The flock quickly split into small groups that danced around each other in the bright orange and blue sky.
Soon the birds started to funnel into the reeds.
As flocks arrived from different directions mixing in huge swirling masses.
The birds flew over our heads moving from a bright sky to the dark greys of the other side. But the noise as they passed over head was amazing.
