Starling Trail
Against a dark grey sky the Starlings put on an excellent display Shapwick Heath in the Avalon Marshes. On a mild evening the birds did not seem to be in a hurry to settle down. The flew around the eastern end of the reserve before finally flying back over our heads and descending into the reedbed in the Roughet. On their way they pulled some interesting shapes – Starling Style.
Are there any chances of seeing any display in October 2014. If so which parts of Somerset?
The Starling season runs from early November to the end of February (sometimes March). October is a bit too early but at the end of the month you could be luckly. Numbers of birds will be low – perhaps around 100,000 birds.
