Lynchcombe Steps

Meadow Browns (Maniola jurtina) – Lynchcombe, Somerst, UK. ID JB4_5466. After trips out to see rare large blue and small blue butterflies it was back to my butterfly transect around Lynchcombe today. It was definitely a case of out with the blues and in with the browns. After counting more than 60 Common Blues on earlier visits – this week I saw only one. Instead Meadow Browns and Ringlets were out in large numbers, along with Small Heaths and a solitary Comma. However for me the butterfly of the day was a Marbled White. I should have guessed that the only white butterfly I would see was also going to be a brown!
