The Donkey Field at Uphil in North Somerset is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust. This small patch surrounded by iron railings provides some of the best displays of spring bulbs. First the snowdrops, then the bluebells and cowslips.
The bluebells surround the trees. Strangely some of these trees are still in captivity. This probably helps protect them during winter grazing by cattle.
The management plan for the site promotes the growth of spring bulbs. The field is closed to the public but can be easily seen, and photographed, from the pavement or from the neighbouring plantation.
I am no expert but not all the bluebells in the field look totally native to me.
