Prospect Fields
Early this year I visited Aller Hill near Langport to photograph the woodland flowers. I completely forgot that the Aller Hill SSSI also includes some grassland. So today I put that right and made an early evening visit to the Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Prospect Fields.
Not sure if I was too early, or too late, but I missed timed my visit. I had hoped to see the Hawthorn in bloom and fields of yellow flowers. In the end I stayed for just 20 minutes only after some unusual dragonflies stole the show.
The view over the Somerset Levels was pretty good too.
This praenubila form of the four-spotted chaser is not that rare but something you rarely notice.
This pair of scarce chasers kept themselves out of reach high up in the trees.
The other one is in the background and completely out of focus.
There were very few flowers on show – perhaps the best was this dog rose being blowed around in the breeze.
And Finally…
Another quick grab shot of a roe deer disappearing into the bush.
