Starling Trail

After a wonderful evening at Ham Wall watching the starlings return to their roost through some beautiful skies I decided to do it all again today.

Huge Numbers

The forecast was not so good so I decided to focus on the birds dropping out of the sky into their roost amongst the reeds.    Again, to my surprise, there were huge numbers of birds.

The birds did not perform the hoped for murmuration patterns.  Instead, the cloud of birds floated over the reedbed.  Then a funnel of birds dropped vertically down to the same small patch of reeds.

At times it felt I was almost under the birds as they dropped.  The noise of their wings was amazing.

And Finally…

I took a short video of the birds in the reeds.
