Starling Trail
There was soft blue hue to the light over Shapwick Heath tonight as we waited for the starlings to return to their roost.
Shapwick Heath
All our hopes were on the starlings returning to their roost of the last few nights on the north side of Meare Heath. The first flocks arrived on schedule through a dramatic sky.
Things were looking good as some of the starlings started to drop not far away.
Then it all went bad as the birds lined up, and the flocks started to disappear.
You have to give it to the starlings they can make a good straight line when they want to.
The clouds were interesting, with their strange streaks. But the starlings were soon gone.
And Finally,
The huge flocks of birds drifted to the far western end of Shapwick Heath. Roosting just south the main track near the start of the path that leads down to the decoy hide. This is a popular site that the birds use every year. Hopefully, they will stay there for a few days.
