Draycott Sleights is a Somerset Wildlife Trust nature reserve on the warm south facing slopes of the Mendip Hills.
Enter the reserve through the main gate on the left up a very steep up the hill from the village of Draycott. Immediately turn right through the kissing gatet. The homeland of the chalkhill blues is only a few metres up the hill.
I miss timed my visit as the butterflies were already a bit worn out. They just wanted to sit down and rest on the dry grass.
The common blues were also looked worse for wear.
Apart from this one that looked beautiful.
While looking for a wall brown butterfly I came across this gorgeous small copper with its short tails on display. Against the limestone it had a great pose.
I never found a wall butterfly.
