Glastonbury Tor Sunrise
With the autumn equinox approaching it was time to re-visit the top of Glastonbury Tor. It has been a while and I missed a lot of opportunities this summer. So I wanted to welcome back the Tor before the big day.
Watching the Sunrise
Do not rush up the Tor just in time to see the sun peek above the horizon. Instead, get to the top while it is still dark. I find the glow from the town below always provides enough light to find your way – just give your eyes a bit of time to adjust.
The light can be most intense half and hour before sunrise. A narrow band of orange rings the eastern horizon.
Zoom in, adjust the exposure time on the camera, and the colours shine in an almost abstract pattern.
Turn around to the west and the street lights of Glastonbury remind me of rivers of larva (may be).
Isle of Pennard
As the scene brightens the hills become islands in a sea to mist.
The first glimpse of the sun. It rises above the horizon very quickly and you do not want to miss this moment
Soon the sun is shining over the mist. Creating huge breaking waves across the landscape.
Time to reflect on the day ahead.
There is always time for a few more pictures on the way back down.
