Templecombe Poppies
This Sunday marks 100 years since the Armistice was signed in November 1918, bringing an end to the First World War. On Remembrance Sunday 11 November 2018, people around Somerset will be reflecting on the lives that were changed and those that were lost.
Remembrance Poppies
At the Church of St Mary in the joined villages of Abbas and Templecombe there is beautiful display of remembrance poppies climbing the church tower.
Each of the 3000 handmade flowers were knitted by the local community. I was told one lady knitted 640 poppies over the summer in preparation for this Sunday.
The display continues inside the church.
Some flowers a bigger than others, some are more packed together than others. But this has created a display that has the charm of a community pulling together to make something extra special.
Inspired by Warminster’s waterfall of knitted poppies a couple of years ago. This community created a display that fades as it climbs the tower towards the sky.
And Finally…
A simple display of poppies lit by the autumn light shining through the church window.
