Huccaby Snowdrops
A quick detour out of Somerset into neighbouring Devon, up onto the moor to visit the tiny St Raphael’s Chapel at Huccaby.
St Raphael’s Chapel
Today I did not have the best of the weather. It was classic Dartmoor – wet, cold and foggy.
The chapel is rightly famous for its snowdrops.
The granite stone walls are covered in a thick layer of green moss.
The flowers were just passed their best, so I had to hunt out the prettiest ones.
These were really fancy.
And Finally…
A look back into my childhood. Just down the road from the chapel is Huccaby Bridge. It crosses the dark brown waters of the River Dart. I grew up in Devon and, after a day walking on the moor, we would go swimming in this patch of freezing water.
