Wood Anemones
Park Wood
Easily my favourite place for wood anemones. Park Wood is just outside Wells. If you are looking for somewhere to park then the nearby Morrison provides 3 hours for free – more than enough for this little wood.
A green sea of white stars every spring.
My visit was after work so there were some good opportunities for back-lighting.
Even at this time of year you need to spend time looking for the best, and taller, individuals.
And Finally…
This peacock butterfly was also out enjoying the wood.
Strangely, its favourite spot was sitting on the nearby dog waste bin. I guess collected the warmth of the sun – and maybe still had some internal heat sources.
Sadly, an orange-tip butterfly did not want to be photographed. It preferred to rest high up in the trees.
