Forde Abbey
Forde Abbey, Somerset
This is a Somerset blog and I claiming Forde Abbey because it has a Somerset address despite being just over the border into the equally wonderful county of Dorset.
This was my first visit to the 800 year old ex-monastery. For the last 300 years it has been a family home and in the last 100 years the large gardens have been transformed.
Snowdrops were a big part of that transformation. I wanted to see how the flowers were getting on – its early in the season but I was hopeful and excited to visit the gardens.
Payment is taken at an honesty box at the entrance!
It may be that the recent weeks of wet weather have not been good for the local snowdrops.
I could only find a few small patches of the white flowers. These were growing on the edge of the lake which reflected the colours of the sky and golden colours of the house.
I hope to return next month to see how they get on.
