Axe Valley Hills
I clear sky and a few clouds are the perfect mix for some autumn dawn colours, so I headed up the Mendip Hills in the hope of some long views across the Axe Valley.
At first the valley is hidden in the shadow of the Mendip Hills. Gradually, the shadow line draws in closer and closer. Eventually, the village of Westbury-sub-Mendip welcomes the morning sun.
From Cooks Fields you can see across the wide Axe Valley. The flat valley floor is dotted with small hills such as:
- Knowle Hill
- Chalcroft Hill (aka the Devil’s Bedstead)
- Windmill Hill (with no windmill)
- Lodge Hill
- Nyland Hill
In the distance the fields around Meare are flooded.
And Finally…
Time for to create a panorama of the Axe Valley by stitching a series of images together on the computer at home – old school!
