Trees and Sky
At the top of Cook’s Fields in the Mendip Hills is a clump of beach trees. The land is a Somerset Wildlife Trust reserve, and the trees are a local landmark. From this spot you can see for miles across the Somerset Levels and on to the sea of the Bristol Channel.
This place has some glorious skies and amazing sunrises during autumn. Earlier in the year the sun rises behind the hills, but now it emerges beyond the south facing slopes of the Mendip ridge.
Sunrise behind the trees set the sky on fire.
Rising above the small city of Wells the sun finds a gap in the old dry stone wall.
A thousand feet up, the weather can quickly change here.
A light dusting of snow will quickly disappear once the sun is up.
At the end of the day and another evening draws near. I’m back up the hill with my tripod ready…
Waiting and watching the sky to see what colours will be cast today.
And Finally…
Do not to forget to turn around and watch the sun stretch across the mists below towards Crook Peak.
