Yarley Frost
Welcome to Yarley Fields on a cold spring morning.
This Somerset Wildlife Trust nature reserve looks south over the Somerset Levels towards Glastonbury Tor.
The reserve is covered in ant hills, between which the frost lingers.
The sun rises on the cowslips.
Cowslips hang their heads on a cold morning.
And finally…
I would like to how thistles can hang on to the last of the morning frost.
We discovered this small reserve last year, while cycling along the lane. There was not much to see after months of drought, barely enough for the cattle to eat. This year, 2021 is better, and in June the pyramidal and bee orchids and other wild flowers are doing well although some had been trampled by the cattle.
Good to hear about the orchids. I have never understood how cattle tiptoe around the rare plants. Many thanks for your comments and good to hear from another cyclist who cannot pass a good looking field! Jeff
