Orchids and Cowslips at UpHill
Six o’clock in the morning, time for for a quick walk to photograph the flowers growing around the Uphill nature reserves in North Somerset. The sun had only just appeared above the horizon behind me. This is beautiful time of day, the golden low light brings out the all the lumps, bumps and hollows in the grass.
The morning dew brings sparkles to the flowers.
By now in the year the cowslips were beginning to turn. But hunting around there were some fresh ones to find.
In the open grassland the purple orchids kept themselves close to the ground, avoiding growing too tall.
Walking over the hill from the village there were clear views towards Brent Knoll. The buttercups in the reserve picked out the morning light.
I wanted to head across to the small hill where the orchids grow. The sky was a big distraction, hundreds of little clouds.
Around the back of the hill the grass was covered in cowslips and orchids
They looked perfect in backlight.
