Snowdrops may mark the start of the end of winter, and perhaps that’s is way we love them.  They can be found in the open countryside and woods across Somerset. However, my favourite locations are the drifts of these little white pearls found outside Somerset’s ancient little churches.

Probably the best of these is the church in the tiny village of Blackford in South Somerset.  There are three villages with this name in Somerset, so pick this one with care if you are thinking of visiting.

The day of my visit was a beautiful winter morning.  I did not know if the flowers would be out, but I should not have worried as they looked beautiful.

After recent rain the drops of water sparkled like diamonds in the low winter sun.
