Fenny Castle II
I recently posted some pictures I took of a sunrise near Fenny Castle in Somerset, However, it was hard see the castle mound, and the village itself was no way near the picture.
So wanted to wonder around the village and take some pictures. That turned into several visits during the morning and evening.
Early Morning
As always I arrive early and picked a spot on a public footpath. I wanted that classic sunrise shot over the village.
It is a lovely part of the world.
Flocks of Birds
I was surprised to discover how many flocks of birds you see at the village. Seagulls, swans, rooks, crows and starlings either make it their home or fly by each day.
In the hill above the village is a rookery. Each morning the crows make so much noise as they prepare to fly out across the countryside. Most seemed to land at Castle Farm after only flying a few hundred yards.
Don’t Forget the Willows
The village sign shows a willow tree hanging over the river. I found one near the castle mound. It could be the one on the sign, but some of it had cracked and dropped into the water. However, there are plenty of others to find.
Autumn
As we approach autumn the colours are turning beautiful and golden.
Evening and yet more flocks
The rooks and crows are not ready for bed, but flocks of starlings are already heading back to roost on the Avalon Marshes.
And finally…
Good night as the sun sets behind the castle mound.
