Starling Trail
Not every day brings the best weather for starling watching. At RSPB Ham Wall it was dark and a bit dull. Only directly overhead could you find a patch of blue sky. Chance to capture the flock from another angle.
It was not long before the flocks started to build in size, and drop into the reeds with nothing in the way of swirling murmurations.
A dense ball of starlings forms as the dive into the reed bed.
It was getting to dull to carry on taking pictures.
But strangely it was on the walk back to the car park, and on the drive home that I got my favourite pictures of the day. This picture was taken from the steep little bridge over the South Drain only yards from the reserve car park.
Just north of Ham Wall on the Ashcott Road a long line of starlings was late joining the party. It was here that the sun finally broke through to illuminate the mist.
