Sycamore Tree Sun
To some the idea of loving sycamores in the UK is treason. They have only been in the country for 500 years after being introduced by people. But with ash trees being removed everywhere do we not need our sycamores more than ever.
In the Mendips these sycamores are a landmark visible from miles arounds at the top of the hill.
Over the last 2 years I visited these trees at all times of the day. The result is a day of their life living in the landscape..
Night
Before sunrise the clear sky is full of stars, and the landscape of the Somerset Levels is sparkling with street lights.
As dawn approaches the sky is bright red.
Dawn
The trees sit at the top of the Lynchcombe nature reserve. This is a Somerset Wildlife Trust site on the south facing (sunny side) of the Mendip hills. Annoyingly, from this location, the sun rises from behind the hills.
Day
The views are amazing. Wide open views across the Somerset Levels towards Glastonbury Tor.
Sunset
In winter the days are short so at 5 o’clock the sun drops down below the horizon.
And finally…
The sky turns back to red after the sun has disappeared. The sky gradually darkens as night returns.
