Chilton Polden
Get a paper map and cut out Somerset. Create a small hole through the location of Chilton Polden. Thread a string through the hole and hang it like a conker. It will hang horizontally. This is because Chilton Polden is the geographical centre of the county. Then at the heart of this centre is its small village church of St Edward.
Like many country churches it is surrounded by flowers. On a spring evening you can sit on the bench that is tucked away out of the breeze, soak top the sun, and enjoy the peace.
The most noticeable are the primroses.
But do not miss the daffodils.
Under the beautiful magnolia tree is a bed of celandines.
And finally…
Did I mention there is a beautiful magnolia tree.
