Surprise Spring Mist
As we approached Easter we had a few days of clear blue skies. The forecast for the following morning was very cold with a good chance of some springtime mist. All this and a moon that was only a day away from being full.
There is a view of Glastonbury Tor that I really like. Above the village of Westbury-sub-Mendip there is a small lay-by where you can park and walk a few yards to get a clear view. A series of rolling hills provide the foreground, which is rare for the Somerset Levels.
It was dark when I arrived. But at the time the moon was high enough in the sky to be out of the mist. I had to wait for it to be light enough to take pictures. Luckily the mist I had hoped for had arrived. Just would have liked some a bit closer.
As the sun got closer to the horizon the Belt of Venus turned pink. This belt of colour is like a watercolour painting. I got my telephoto lens out, and zoomed as far as I could towards Wedmore so the full moon took centre spot above the village.
Gradually, as the sun continued to rise, the sky above Glastonbury Tor also turned soft pink.
Eventually, the sun’s rays illuminated the church tower at Wedmore. The Isle of Wedmore remaining surrounded in a sea of mist.
And finally…
I relocated up the hill to get a different view. Amazingly there was still some thin mist hanging around in the valley.
