Montacute

I have wanted to visit the Ladies Walk at Montacute for a while, but it never happened.  This year I finally got around to it!

Ladies Walk

Ladies Walk is a woodland trail up and around a steep hill.

This was the start of the walk with its lovely old trees.

Sadly, most of the bluebells had gone over. The best, I could find, was deeper into the woods down a network of little paths.

Hollow Lane

This turned out to be the biggest surprise of my visit.  It reminded me of Hell Lane in Dorset with its steep soft stone sides.  The bright fresh green leaves of the trees created a beautiful light.

The roots of the big old trees were exposed on the road banks.

Back to Montacute, and fields of buttercups.

Back in the village, and another beautiful old church.

Jackdaws strolled around the churchyard, which was full of buttercups.
