You never know what you are going to get when you visit Ham Wall to watch the starlings return to their roost.  Sometimes you get wonderful patterns, or a chasing marsh harrier.  Today we got 70,000 birds a moon and a beautiful sky.

As the sky darkened the starlings dropped into the reed bed of Loxton’s Marsh ready for the night.

We paid our second visit of the season on Saturday, the starling split into three distinct roost sites either side of the main path. it makes for entertaining times wondering where they’ll be – especially for the people I met who had travelled from a fair distance just to see them.

Thanks for your comments. The starling displays have been excellent so far. Ham Wall has been very busy, I was beginning to think the starlings were coming to watch the human murmurations. Not been back down for a couple of days. On my last visit they dropped mainly into Waltons West.
