Starling Trail
Winter Morning at Ham Wall
The last weekend in November and another trip down to Ham Wall. This time for a morning, a very cold morning.
Winter telling us it had arrived with some very cold weather (minus 3 Celsius).
I headed down to the viewing bench on Waltons Heath to watch the starlings lift out the reeds and do a fly-by passed Glastonbury Tor.
This is a truly amazing experience.
The noise is level is fantastic. Tens of thousands of wings create a really strong breeze. You could see the wind blowing rippling across the otherwise smooth water.
The whole display is over in minutes.
After the Show
It was time to enjoy the sunrise over the lagoon at Ham Wall.
It was a beautiful morning, with mist slowly rising into the sky.
To my surprise a group of roe deer wondered by.
I hid behind a bush to quickly change my camera lens, and try and get some close-up pictures before they dashed away.
Walking back to the car park the view across Ham Wall was stunning.
Clear blue skies and sparkling jewels of frost – a perfect winter morning.
And finally…
A quick stop at Meare to catch the morning light on the Fish House.
