Roadside Snowdrops
We all have our favourite places to see snowdrops – a church, country estate or woodland valley. However, it is possible to see snowdrops all over the place as you drive around the county.
Monitoring snowdrops at the side of the road you pass each day gives you the best guide for when to make a trip to your chosen special location.
However, the big problem with road side snowdrops is all those cars. Spraying dirty water and grit over their pristine white flowers.
My obvious advice for finding a spotless patch of snowdrops is to look out for quite roads and catch the flowers just as they open.
Your best chance are the roads around Priddy high up in the Mendip Hills. Every road is a gold mine for Snowdrops: Pelting Drove, Wells Road, Coxton End Lane, Hillgrove Road, B3134, and a road that just seems to be called Priddy. At the Hunters Arms and Castle of Comfort there are snowdrops and a place for a drink and food.
And finally…
Even at this time of year bees may be out and about pollinating a few snowdrops.
