Water Water Everywhere
A mute swan paddles slowly across a lake that used to be a field. This was just one of delights seen on a walk along North Chine Drove near Wedmore in Somerset. This drove is the backbone, that was probably once used to move animals across the moor, that runs across the northern edge of Westhay Moor.
Water is everywhere, field or road. So expect wet feet.
The whole landscape is a water world.
Time to reflect on the beauty of the Somerset Levels.
A pair of Canada geese join our Mute Swan to enjoy the springtime sun with a bit of extra swimming space.
Some gates have seen better days. Perhaps it was attacked by a passing whale.
Last week Queen’s Sedge Moor near Glastonbury was under almost a foot of water. Since then the water there has receded. I wonder if it has all ended up here.
My family call this the Grand Designs house after the TV series. We watched it being built a few years ago on the Blakeway road just south of Wedmore. It is called the Blakeway Bungalow. Not sure if it is still a bungalow? It was built in stilts so that may explain the height. The previous bungalow on the site was very different. And before that building there was the Globe Inn.
No idea who lives there now but I’m sure they love it. Hope it is keeping dry.
