Babcary Meadows
Babcary is a small village deep in South Somerset those history goes back to the Domesday Book and beyond, including Wimble Toot a Bronze Age barrow.
North of the village is Babcary Meadows. They are owned and managed by the Somerset Wildlife Trust. It is one of only a few areas of unimproved grassland meadows in South Somerset.
I regularly cycle to the meadows to look around. But today I wanted to watch the sunrise so the only option was to use my car. A lot safer in the dark, and the bonus of more time in bed.
It was dark when I arrived in time to set-up my tripod and camera for the sunrise. Sadly, a bank of clouds hid the sun. Never mind, the birds still sang over the meadows announcing the dawn, and the moon was fantastic.
Spring Mist
On the ground a fresh covering of dew glistened, and made my feet wet. In the air a soft mist breathed in and out across the land. As the sky gradually turned blue.
Buttercups
The first field was full of buttercups from edge to edge.
The tall yellow flowers danced in the gentle breeze.
And finally…
A small foot bridge over the River Cary leads you back to the village, and if it was not still only 8am a chance to pop into the Red Lion.
