On my recent trip to the Pembrokeshire coast the main goal was to see the puffins on the island of Skomer.  But it did not take long to discover that the whole area is special.  Extra special being the nature reserve at Stackpole.

You could not miss the coughs announcing their arrival with their haunting call.

This pair of Razorbills were clearly in love.

The cliffs at Stackpole Head were home for lines of guillemots.  I liked this picture when I saw the young bird clinging to the rock over on the left.  It is ok for the parents, if they slip they can fly – not so for this little one.

Some disappointment when we realised the way forward was closed.

The grasslands were covered in young wheatears.  Using any high spot for an advantage.

Stonechats also find the local high spots.

And finally…

We have skylarks on the Mendip Hills, but the ones here were so tame.  Happy to pose for a picture or two.
