Stockhill Mist
Probably the best weather for photographing autumn woodland is a combination of mist and a strong early morning sun. The forecast for this morning looked hopeful. Hopeful in the same way I hoped to see the northern lights a few months ago.
When a morning has the perfect forecast it is worth getting up while it is still dark and driving to your chosen location. The obvious problem being that it is too dark to see what the weather is really going to do. So once you get to the location you simply have to wait and see what happens.
Most mornings the weather does not do its job. But this morning was one of those occasions where it played out as planned – well close enough.
The sun came out later than expected as it had to clear a thick bank of low cloud. Luckily the last of the mist was still hanging around.
Next you pick your favourite tree, point the camera towards the sun and take your dream picture. More often this is the one that got away.
And finally…
Kids have built lots of shelter throughout the wood. They add a bit of interest to a woodland – so worth seeking out.
