Starling Trail

The Starlings are on Westhay Heath.  This is the area north of the Glastonbury Canal opposite Canada Farm.   It can be viewed from the footpath along the canal that joins the road at the bridge near the Avalon Centre.  Walk up the grass path just beyond the large Oak tree on the other side of the canal.

Alternatively, the birds can viewed from Burtle Road but there is no-parking and its long walk from Avalon Centre car park.  Time to get on your bicycles!

The birds gathered in the trees before moving to their roost in the reeds.  I waited to capture the moment the birds flew out of the trees.   There is always a brief second of silence just before Starlings take off.  They all take a synchronised breath and ready themselves to jump into the air at the right moment.

The weather was very poor, dull and grey.  I used some processing in Lightroom to add a sepia tone to the images.
