Colour Field – Yellow
The green countryside of Britain may be turning yellow as Oilseed rape production increases. As someone who loves the environment the crop does have its critics: its yellow colour for one: the link between the pesticides used and the decline of UK honeybees; the use of GM crops. The other view points out that: the crop provides cover and nest sites for birds; has low nutrient leaching from fields; and reduces in soil erosion.
As a photographer the bright colour creates a bonanza or opportunities. So this year I have decided start a new mission: to explore strange new parts of Somerset, to seek out new fields and new colour, to boldly go where lots of farmers and their mums have been before.
