Babcary Meadows

I visited Babcary Meadows on the way home from work earlier this year but the meadows were not ready.  So today a returned to this Somerset Wildlife Trust reserve.  Close to Perry Mead, I regularly pass Babcary on my daily commute.

This reserve shares the River Cary with Perry Mead and much of South Somerset. There is an attractive ford next to the reserve.  The entrance to the meadows is a great little bridge and gate – a particular favourite of mine.

This bridge is a great spot to sit and photograph the Banded Demoiselles (Calopteryx splendens).  My 150mm macro lens does not have the best reach for this location, perhaps a close focus 300mm lens would be better.   The concrete bridge absorbs the summer sun and warms up nicely.
