Bruton Dovecote

I’m still being diverted via Bruton on my way to work.  This town’s best known landmark is the ancient Dovecote.  Built around 400 years ago the Dovecote may have originally been a watch tower.  Its sits at the top of Lusty Hill where it overlooks the town.

This morning it was cloudy to the west but clear to the east.  This allowed the dawn light to shine on the Dovecote.  These pictures were taken as the low sun illuminated the tower while the ground was still in the shadow of the hedge.  The glow of the golden sun on the stone, and the dark clouds behind, created a magical scene.

Turning the camera around to see the sun rise above Bruton it is obvious why the light on the Dovecote was so magical.

Turning Around

This gap in the clouds to the east allowed the dawn sun to illuminate the Dovecote while the rest of the scene remained in shadow.

Creech Hill

Just before I left to continue my journey to work I wanted to capture the morning light on Creech Hill.  I drive over this hill each morning and it has become a favourite of mine.  It is the highest point in this secret part of Somerset.
