Starling Trail

Back to Westhay Heath. This time the birds put on one of the best displays I have seen. From the road the scene looked like a stage with the birds the stars.

Birds on a wire
Before the flock was ready to roost it flew around the farmland north of Westhay Heath. Large numbers of birds settled on the wires behind the peat works.

The Stage

The stage was set and the birds entered from the right against a red sunset.  They put on a great show before descending into the reeds.

To see the best patterns you need to back away from the flock.  Too close and the birds are more dramatic, you can feel the breeze of their wings and the noise of the birds.  But set back the swirling patterns of the murmuration become clear.
