A visit to Shapwick Heath on the Starling Trail. As expected I arrived too early and took some pictures around the and reserve.
First a flew birds arrived passing in front of the moon. Then a million more arrived!
The birds descended at the Scrape on Shapwick Heath.
The Next Day
The next day started less well. A few birds arrived snaking towards the woods. The birds then disappeared to the far end of Shapwick Heath.
Just as we were giving up I noticed a huge flock of birds was moving this way. All the birds that had descended in the far end of the reserve had lifted and were flying on mass back to the scrape. They slowly circled the reserve as we called back people about the leave. They put on one the best displays we had seen.
Update: I did not know at the time but this was to be my last visit to the Starlings this season.
