Wearyall Hill
I wanted to view the sun rising behind Glastonbury Tor from Wearyall Hill. I knew it was a bit late in the year. But I knew the sun would rise to the left of the Tor but I hoped as it climbed it would move behind the Tor. I forgot how quickly it gains height and the sun was way above the church. In the autumn there will be another chance to try again.
The sun rises to the left (north) of the Tor. Its moving up and left, but was rising too quickly.
The sun shines above the Tor. The church acts like a sundial, casting its faint shadow vertically down the hill.
A wider angle, and a darker exposure, created a dramatic view.
View from the top of Wearyall Hill. Notice how the shadow of the church its now pointing to the left.
Holy Thorn
Five years ago the Holy Thorn Tree of Glastonbury was cut down. Behind the thorn is a faint view of the moon. Ribbons carrying messages, and prayers, are tied to the tree.
Blackthorn Blossom
On the hill the other blackthorn trees are in blossom.
Somerset Levels
The hill provides some of the best views across the Somerset Levels. In the early morning light the shadows of the tree are very long.
