Starling Trail

Starlings circle Glastonbury Tor – Somerset, UK. ID JB4_1291.  Wonderful evening photographing the clouds of Starlings at Ham Wall.  Why do Starlings arrive at their roost just as all the light is disappear.  To help with the lack of light I use by f2.8 150mm macro lens.  This is my fastest lens, but wide landscapes are out of the question.   The image above was my favourite of a series of photographs taken over a few seconds.  In this picture the Starlings rose enough to clear the outline of the Tor.

I would have preferred the Tor to be further to the right.  However, moving my position would have caused the bush on the right to move into the centre of the picture.   Moving around the crowded Ham Wall path on a busy Starling watching night can be unpopular if you accidentally stand in front of fellow photographer.
