Pilton Hill
Driving home I saw a bright yellow field on the hill above North Wootton. I drove towards it hoping I could park somewhere close and find a footpath to the field.
As it turned out the field was on Pilton Hill and it had a footpath straight through the middle. Sometimes things just turn out better than you imagine. Pilton is famous for the Glastonbury Festival and soon the big wall will go up across the valley and part of my cycle route home.
Of course, finding a field is not the same as photographing a field, and as soon as I arrived the local girls came up to find out was was happening.
This is the shot I wanted. A beautiful meadow full of buttercups. Nice but a bit flat, so I decided to return in the morning.
Next Morning
The same view at way too early o’clock the next morning. It was 5:10am and the sun was rising above Folly Wood at the top of the hill.
Westholme House
This house is on the south facing slopes of Pilton Hill. A footpath through their park allowed me to photograph the field of buttercups. I had hoped the horses would walk into view – but it was too early in the morning for horses to get up!
And Finally…
All morning I watched Glastonbury Tor in the distance. It never seemed to be in good light. I took several pictures which I later threw away. Then I noticed a hole in a sweet chestnut tree and lined it up with the Tor. The tree was not in the best light, but I hope its a bit more interesting that the others.
