Aller Wood
A day of unpromising weather ahead so I decided to check out Aller Woods which I do not know very well. Its a Somerset Wildlife Trust reserve in South Somerset near Langport. After the fabulous carpets of flowers in Park Wood I wanted to see how good the Wood Anemones could be.
Wood Anemones
A damp cold morning and as I entered the wood the few anemones around still had their heads down.
Initially the wood did not look promising with only a few flowers surrounded by damp foliage.
Primroses
Things looked up when I looked down. The wood is steep and down the bottom of the bank there were lots of flowers. Getting there down the slippery slope carrying my camera was a challenge. I did not return home as clean as I started!
The bottom of the wood was a different world to the top. A mixture of wood anemones, primroses and dogs mercury.
