Jeff Body’s sheep that graze Cannards Grave roundabout at Shepton Mallet are rightly famous. But in a roundabout way, it’s becoming just as famous for its spring flowers.
The roundabout was covered in snowdrops early this year. I had not seen them here before and hopefully they will spread across the roundabout. Today cowslips cover the slip-roads. This year is a bumper year for dandelions.
So I put on my yellow high-visibility jacket for camouflage and went looking for looking for the best flowers next to the road.
I know the local council does a great job in looking after this roundabout and takes great care to cut the grass at the best time for the flowers. While the cowslips are here in good numbers this year the large numbers of dandelions and the longer grass is beginning to crowd them out.
Last year was special as we had April frosts and the wetter weather that made the roundabout glisten in the morning sun.
However, the cowslips here are still wonderful and I have to take care when driving not to be too distracted on my way to work.
