Spring Meadow

Today was the day I realised that spring was turning into summer. I started in beautiful Biddle Combe near Wells but was I was forced to leave the overgrown shade of the wood and explore the fields around West Horrington. A last chance to visit a spring meadow.

The wild garlic was passed its best and I had to look hard to find a fresh flower in a good location.

Leaving the Wood

A small group of bluebells growing amongst the seedling trees at the edge of the wood.

Spring Meadows

I walked out the shade of the wood into the sunshine of a meadow full of bluebells and plantains.  Who says bluebells only grow in woods.

Summer is around the corner but spring is clinging on in this meadow.

And Finally…

There were only a few butterflies about.  A common blue, a red admiral, a couple of small whites and this old peacock.

This peacock (Inachis io) had lost most of its wings and one of its antenna.  It was old and faded, but unlike me it could still fly.  Amazing, but saddly probably not for much longer.

Goodbye spring woodland and hello summer meadows!
