Babcary Meadows
I visited Babcary a few weeks ago. Back then in April the hay meadows were still waiting for spring to arrive. Today I returned to the meadows to see if things had progressed.
The Meadows
Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Babcary Meadows, like its close neighbour Perry Mead, is a small patch of unimproved neutral grassland. Some of the last remaining areas of traditionally managed fields in south Somerset.
The trust has a wild walk around the meadow in June: Babcary Wildwalk
Today there were blue skies and yellow buttercups everywhere. In this weather the reserve looked wonderful.
Oxeye Daisy
I may have missed the orchid show between visits, and where is all the salad burnet, but a few of my favourite Oxeye daises (Leucanthemum vulgare) were on display.
These were not the fields of daises that I saw in a Somerset Wildlife Trust video on YouTube but a joy to see anyway.
And a joy for all those insects too!
