Glastonbury Tor
A couple of weeks ago I went up Wearyall Hill in Glastonbury to photograph the sun rise from behind the Tor. From there, I could see tiny people a mile away high up on the Tor. On closer inspection of my pictures they seemed to having such a great time doing all sorts of strange things.
I decided that next time I too would climb to the top and join in the fun. Today was that day!
I arrived in the dark and climbed the hill. As normal, I arrived too early. The moon was almost full and shone next to the tower. I was alone for some time just waiting.
Then, I was joined by a annoying drone buzzing around the Tor. Do they really need to fly these noisy things?
Waiting
Gradually more people arrived and together we waited for sunrise. In the distance mist was still lying in Queen’s Sedge Moor. But that was disappearing quickly as we watched.
Sunrise
The first glimpse of the sun.
In the valley the mist still lingered. In the far distance the mist was very thick and was pouring up the hills with the increasing wind.
As soon as it appeared the sun went straight behind clouds. So, a few minutes later, we had a second dawn when it reappeared into clear sky.
The wind was picking-up and blowing in clouds in from the west.
The low sun created long shadows across the Somerset Levels.
Yoga
What a fanastic place to do yoga.
Top of the world – the perfect place to welcome the sun.
Was it yoga I could see from Wearyall Hill last week?
And Finally…
Clouds and showers were blowing in from the west. I started to return when a beautiful rainbow appeared.
Confession time. I took the picture of this rainbow this morning. Then a couple of minutes later when the scene was free of people I took another of the tower. In this second picture the rainbow was fading. So, I merged the two images together creating what I hoped to see and so very nearly did!
