Yarley Hill
Yarley Hill and Tree
The picture below is probably the most popular view of Yarley Hill as seen from the Mendip Hills across the Axe Valley covered in mist. A classic autumn picture. Standing on its own at the top of the hill is the Yarley Tree. Today I decided to walk up Yarley Hill to visit this tree. The tricky bit was the freezing weather.
Looking back over the small village of Henton to the valley of the River Axe and the Mendip Hills in the distance.
Approaching the top of the hill is this curved fence. One side is a smooth ploughed field. The other is steep rough ground covered in ant hills.
The Axe valley covered in snow.
The Yarley tree at the top of the hill. Just visible is a herd of cattle huddled for warmth in the background.
The weather was freezing in the strong wind. I had to wait sometime for the wind to briefly drop and for the tree to settle enough that I could take its picture.
And Finally…
The Yarley Tree in much warmer times.
