Cerne Abbas is a small village in the beautiful hills of Dorset in the south west of the UK. If you are not familiar with the Cerne Abbas Giant then take a look at this giant page from the National Trust. It is probably the rudest 180ft giant in the UK!

My son and I drove down to Cerne Abbas to find Marsh Fritillary butterflies (Euphydryas aurinia). But when we arrived the giant may have been displaying himself proudly but the butterflies we no where to be seen. Soon they started to fly – first the Small Heath butterflies then Common and Adonis Blues and finally the Marsh Fritillaries. It was a great morning.
