Downside Mist
I was hoping for some autumn colour at Beacon Hill Woods in Somerset. But instead it was the mist hugging the ground north of that hill that took my attention. The blue light of early dawn created a beautiful landscape where only the tops of the trees around Harridge Woods could be seen.
To get a better view I walked down the ancient Roman Fosse Way. An unexpected sharp bend in the route provided a suitable spot for my tripod overlooking Tanyard Farm. I’m guessing that it was not the Romans the put this kink in the road.
As the sun rose above the horizon the colours changed and soon the autumn shades of the distant woodland were visible. In the distance the tall tower of Downside Abbey caused me some confusion. A walker by said it was Ashwick Church. Later on I tracked down that church through some very narrow lanes. But its tower was far too short to be the some in my pictures. So for now I’m going with Downside Abbey.
